Two
more chairs make a total of 4
Of course, one chair is only good for one person, and there are at least two of us in The Ugly Green house. So
I had to make at least one other chair. And of course, in the process of making
another chair, had to modify the design somewhat ( removing the through tenons
across the back). The second chair turned out even
better than the first. For the 3rd and 4th chairs, I modified the curve in
the seat, moving the center of curvature back several inches. This made
the chairs very, very comfortable. We often have guests over that sit in
these chairs for hours and remark about how comfortable they are. The 7
degree tilt of the back seems to about perfect when couple with the curved seat.
Originally, the plan was to put cushions on these, but they don't seem to
need them. I did have fun cutting all of the mortises without the use of my mortising attachment.
I meant to get one of those fancy Mortising Machines, but just never got around to
it. All 54 mortises were cut by hand, which gives me a lot of satisfaction and
pleasure.
